According to Dedy Permadi, researchers at National University of Singapore and the University of Gajah Mada revealed that the major cities in Indonesia has more than 200,000 residents and is not a satellite city or state capital. So if done the right policies, the cities will be a smart city within a period of five to fifteen years.
Currently, Dedy Permadi has conducted research with the National University of Singapore, UGM, and Microsoft about which city worthy of a Smart City. According to the results there are 12 cities that should be put forward as a candidate smart city.
For Sumatra there are two cities that layakyaitu Medan and Palembang, then existing Java Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surakarta and Surabaya. In addition to Eastern Indonesia is Samarinda, Makassar, Denpasar, Ambon, and Jaypura.
